VIDEO WORKS FROM THE INTEREDIA DEPARTMENT OF THE TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY OF KOŠICE
The Faculty of the Arts in Košice was established in 1998 as Slovakia’s latest school to offer higher education degrees in the fine and applied arts. The Department offering the Free Visual Arts study program has been established at the time of the Faculty’s founding. The first three ateliers were the 3D Free Creativity, the Contemporary Image and the Graphics and ExperimentalWorks. To these the New Media atelier was added in 2004. The philosophical and conceptual foundations of the department, which is based on non-orthodox pedagogical methods and oriented toward intermedia work, were set down by it’s long-time director prof. Juraj Bartusz, who also played a decisive role in founding the Arts Faculty itself. The philosophy of the Department retained its focus on sustainability of the individual pedagogical approach within the ateliers and, thus, on the preservation of a relatively small student body. The faculty’s intimate environment, along with the euphoric atmosphere that accompanied its founding, have had a strong share generating the collegial feeling that prevails among its students. At the same time, strong individuals have appeared who have made their mark in a short time both within their generation and in broader context.
